We were a victim of VW's cheating 2.0L diesel debacle. I immediately decided to take the buyback, not trusting them to preserve the nature of the car with any approved fix. Being offered a buyback too great to ignore, we decided to take the money and run! We also needed to replace an aging Honda Pilot, and a GLK250 was just the right fit. We took the plunge before VW buybacks commenced - I suspect there will be very few pre-owned, late model, non-VW diesels on the market in a month or so.
We love the GLK. I'm having to adapt to its quirks; I find the COMAND interface to be complicated and unintuitive compared to a simple touchscreen. I understand the ergonomic argument and the ability to operate without looking (at least after memorizing twisty-clicky sequences.) And both my wife and I love the way it drives!
My only real complaint is with the headlights. Our GLK is not equipped with HID and the low beams are just flat inadequate. The last two cars I owned, when turning, activated the fog light on the turning side to act as a cornering light. We live in a twisty residential area and really need to do something. The lack of front fog lamps is also disconcerting. The headlights on our 1996 BMW Z3 are vastly superior.
